Challenge #3 - 5th November

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;

Could you name a better challenge to set for my students on the 5th November than interpreting the old English folk verse about Guy Fawkes and his conspirators who attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5th November 1605.

Though we do not celebrate this event in Australia on 5th November it does not mean I have forgotten all about it. As a child I remember collecting ‘crackers’, making a ‘guy’, etc and then delight seeing fireworks explode to the back drop of a huge bonfire and sparklers. Reminiscing these memories, I could not help myself asking my students to create their interpretation of this rhyme.

Below are some of the images forwarded by students showing the explosive nature of fireworks along with reds and oranges seen in a fire. My students all commented what a fun theme to ‘play’ with and how free they could be with their creations.
