Disassembling and Re- arranging Material

Sandy Marker

Disassembling or deconstructing your floral material is a very interesting exercise. It is a journey of discovery beyond what we see when we pick the plant material.

While disassembling the flower, stem, leaves one starts to notice the subtle colours, textures and forms that go to make up the material. As an artist where do you draw the line as to how far do you disassemble the material – but when creating Sogetsu arrangements we set about showing the beauty of the plant and what is beyond the ordinary.

Next time you work with plant material take a little time out to discover the inner qualities. This is not just when you are arranging your flowers but when you work in your garden, or when you are dismantling an old arrangement take time to see new.
