Sketching your arrangement
My students are very use to ‘hands on’ with their material while designing their arrangements, so having to sketch their idea first raised some interesting challenges.
The first dilemma was how ‘good’ should the sketch be – enough to show the design and your intention of the arrangement. The students studied the material then selected a container before setting out to design their arrangement on paper.
Time to execute the drawing: – this is where the challenges really came to the fore creating discrepancies in the design. There are many reasons why:- one, because you are not touching the material thus not totally in tune with the properties of the material. There are many more reasons why the discrepancies occur, can you think of any?
