Ikebana fascinators

The first Tuesday of November is Melbourne Cup Day with most of Australia stopping to watch race not to mention the fashions.

I teach on Tuesday and not wanting my students to feel leftout of the festivities I took Sofu Teshigahara’s mantra literally:- ‘Anyone can do ikebana anywhere with anything, at any time’ so the theme was Celebration arrangements. I actually took it one step further by asking the students to make ‘ikebana’ fascinators using fresh flowers. One requirement was they must incooperate the elements of Sogetsu (Line, Colour and Mass). The students drew on their creative skills making interesting forms.

The final results were both interesting and lots of fun. It just goes to show ikebana can be placed anywhere
