Flowers Only

This is not one of my favorite themes as you may have realized that by now. I much prefer sculptural, strong forms with lines. In my eyes this is rather a flowery arrangement but many ikebana artists like this style, saying that, there is no right or wrong when it comes to the style of ‘art’, unless there is a particular theme that must be executed.

This arrangement falls into the category of Maze-zashi arrangements where the work must contain more than 5 or 7 varieties of materials. Look closely to see if you can find seven different flowers or grasses.

When executing Maze-zashi arrangements, the starting point is at the base with small material working up towards the tall elements – this method is opposite to arranging most compositions..
