Iemoto's Class 8th March 2016

We could choose what we wanted to do but preferably select from either of the two themes set down; Variation #8 Nageire/Nageire or to be Viewed from Above.

I choose to select part of the Variation #8 – using one container and creating Variation #3. The reason for my choice is because I am not very fond on Variation #3 and felt if I could gain some additional points I may view this style with a different outlook. I was delighted with the result, now I can enjoy it because of some simple pointers. When placing the Jushi, cross the work over the Hikae almost creating a plaiting effort, this creates a strong form to be viewed from 180°. The material I used was Black willow (I have since learnt there are over 400 kinds of willow) and tulips arranged in a ceramic container.

Variation #3

My second lesson for the day was To be Viewed form Above. Feeling creative I worked with Horse Tail and Gloriosa Lily in a ceramic container with a curled edge. Making use of this curl I created geometric arrangement highlighted with the Gloriosa Lily. Usually one to hide my success ‘under a bushel’ I am proud to say I was granted the greatest honour by the mater saying “great material, great technique, and perfect arrangement”.
