Two amazing Demonstrations for the Celebration Finale

Iemoto Akane Teshigahara

Throughout the celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of Sogetsu in Delhi, members from many of the Indian branches demonstrated often using material that was pertaining to their area. Exposure to different material such as ‘ice apples’, twisted coconut flower sheaths and many other flowers we do not see in Australia was a treat to see.

The morning of the final day Christopher Lim from Singapore demonstrated. Much to the amusement of the audience said he was the ‘fastest arranger of material’ and he certainly lived up to that, with gusto he created eleven arrangements plus a finale piece.

With great anticipation for the last event of the celebrations we were treated to an amazing performance by Imeoto, Akane Teshigahara. The skill with which she worked left me in awe at the ease and perfection of each arrangement. One of the arrangements was my least favourite (Morimono – Variation #7) but with her magic touch I will now view this style through new eyes.

The Iemoto conducted the grand finale arrangement by starting the foundation using large branches followed with four huge Buddha Belly Bamboo, washi paper forms were added along with other materials and completed the creation with huge hydrangeas, certainly a sceptical enjoyed by everyone.
