Simplifed Arrangements

Sue

Students often approach this lesson with the misconception that it is going to be a very easy lesson – just put a stunning flower in a container! To simplify something is to ‘reduce the complexity’, and in Sogetsu we trim back material reducing the mass to expose the simple beauty of the plant material.

Some ask why not just pick a single flower and place it in a vase, I suppose one could but that is not the true essence of Sogetsu Ikebana. Careful study of your material plus selective in trimming to discover the true beauty of the material takes this arrangement to a new level.
