Three Iemoto' classes today

Ms Bisen Sumide our Master for the Iemoto’s class, which I attended three times in one day. Eager to learn as much as possible plus the wonderful opportunity to learn from so many different masters. It is expanding my knowledge through different methods and viewpoints.

The themes for today were Book 1 Lesson 3 and Book 3 Lesson 3. Choosing to work through Book 3, I used Siberian dogwood and Gerberas, plus an orange ceramic container to execute the second theme. Taking the word freestyle in the title literally I actually did not execute this arrangement correctly. In this style you have to show the water/space between the two kenzans, which I did but I failed to cover the kenzans with leaves/flowers.

I repeated the same exercise in the second lesson using Forsythia and Alstroemeria in a sand coloured ceramic container. Reading the lesson notes in the book you can use two or more kenzans so always up for a challenge I used three. Fulfilling the lesson requirements it does not mean I necessarily like this style because I think it is ‘fluffy ‘ around the kenzan even looks like a bouquet at times.

The third lesson for the day I chose to revise Variation #4 Nageire. My material was cherry blossom and peony in a ceramic greenish container that had been mended using Kintsugi method (broken section is repaired with lacquer mixed with powdered gold or silver). The main aspect of this variation is to create a beautiful sweeping curved open space.
